No. 11 Eagles use Coffey hat trick to down the Hokies

NEWTON, Mass. – Boston College sophomore Sam Coffey registered a hat trick as the No. 11 Eagles ended Virginia Tech women's soccer's three-game winning streak, handing the Hokies a 3-0 defeat in ACC action at Newton Campus Soccer Field on Thursday night.

Boston College (12-1-0, 4-1-0 ACC) got on the board with its first goal in the 12th minute when Coffey scored from about 20 yards out on the left side. In the 36th minute, she took a free kick from about the same spot to net her second of the night and then finished off the scoring with a strike from the top of the box in the 68th minute.

Tech (7-3-3, 3-2-0 ACC) was limited to just six shots in the game, but just one after the intermission.

FROM COACH ADAIR
"I'm disappointed tonight in the result and the overall execution of our game plan. I thought we struggled from the start trying to deal with their frontrunners and their attacking midfield play. I thought we struggled as a group moving forward. I don't think we did a good enough job in transitioning and taking advantage of some of the opportunities we had in the attacking third. We gave up an early goal and were chasing the game, which didn't help us. It was just a difficult night for us overall. I'm looking forward to regrouping and getting ready for Duke on Sunday in another big ACC match."
