Korsgaard, Ribeiro fall in quarterfinals at ITA All-American

TULSA, Okla. – Juniors Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro wrapped up their run in the doubles main draw on Saturday at the 2018 ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
The Tech duo fell in the quarterfinals to the Ole Miss pair of Fabian Fallart and Finn Reynolds. In the first set it was a battle as the two pairs were tied at 6 before going into a tiebreak that was claimed by the Rebels' pair 7-6(2). In the second set, the Ole Miss pair secured it 6-3.
 
Virginia Tech will be back on the court Oct. 18-22, hosting the ITA Atlantic Regional at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

MAIN DRAW - DAY TWO
TULSA, Okla. –
Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro claimed the doubles win on Friday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinals at the 2018 ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
The Tech tandem knocked off Texas A&M's 26th-ranked duo of Juan Carlos Aguilar and Alejandro Asensi in straight sets with scores of 6-4, 6-4.
 
Korsgaard and Ribeiro will be back on the court Saturday in the quarterfinals, facing Ole Miss' 43rd-ranked pair of Fabian Fallert and Finn Reynolds who advanced out of qualifying doubles to the main draw.

MAIN DRAW - DAY ONE
TULSA, Okla.
– The Virginia Tech men's tennis team had a stellar day on Thursday at the 2018 ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championship as the Hokies advanced in both main draw singles and doubles in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
Mitch Harper, ranked 12th, opened the day with a win over USC's Jake DeVine. Winning the first set 6-2, Harper faltered 6-4 in the second. The two kept it close in the third set and were tied at 4 when Harper held serve and broke DeVine to secure the set and match 6-4.
 
In doubles, No. 12 Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro paired up against Columbia's William Matheson and Jackie Tang. The duo is not ranked in the doubles as a pair, but each is ranked with other teammates – Matheson at eighth and Tang at 18th. Korsgaard and Ribeiro took the first set 6-4, but the Lions' pair rallied for the second 6-2. In the third set super tiebreak, Korsgaard and Ribeiro secured it 10-6.
 
Harper was on the court with teammate Carlo Donato for doubles. The 16th-ranked pair faced No. 42 Bjorn Thomason and Parker Wynn of Texas Tech. Tech and TTU were tied at five in the first set, but the Hokies' pair got the breaker and held on serve to win it 7-5. The Red Raiders' duo answered, winning the second 6-2, but Harper and Ribeiro claimed it in the super tiebreak 10-6.
 
The Hokies will be back on the court Friday with the second round of singles and the round of 16 in doubles.

QUALIFYING SINGLES
TULSA, Okla. – Virginia Tech men's tennis wrapped up qualifying singles matches on Tuesday with Carlo Donato claiming a win against Adam Sanjurjo of Arkansas on Tuesday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
Donato moved into the consolation draw after falling to Wake Forest's 74th-ranked Yuval Solomon 6-1, 7-5 in his first match at the event. The Tech sophomore rallied in his second match after falling behind Sanjurjo 6-2 in the first set. Donato held on to take the second 7-5 and secured the win 6-3 in the third.
 
The Hokies No. 101 Alex Ribeiro played to a pair of tiebreakers in his consolation match before faltering against Penn State's No. 97 Christian Lakoseljac. The two kept it close through out, but the PSU player held off Ribeiro to win it 7-6(3), 7-6(4).
 
Tech will be back on the All-American court Thursday with Mitch Harper taking the court for main draw singles. Donato will join him for main draw doubles with the duo ranked 16th in the ITA standings. Henrik Korsgaard and Ribeiro will also be in action in the main draw doubles, ranked 12th.
