Hokies take on Orange in the First Round of the ACC Tournament

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's soccer team is set to play Syracuse at home in the First Round of the ACC Tournament Wednesday, October 31st at 7 p.m.
 
The game can be found on ACC Network Extra. The winner will advance to the ACC Quarterfinals and take on second seed, North Carolina.

Hokies

  • The Hokies clinched the seven seed in the ACC Tournament, along with being ranked eighth nationally in the NCAA Men's Soccer Committee's first look.
  • Tech fell to Duke last week 2-0 in their last game of the regular season. 
  • Kristo Strickler was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week following last week's play. He is the first Hokie to receive this honor all season.
  • The Hokies defeated the Orange 1-0 in their last matchup in September.
  • Tech is ranked 22nd in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, 25th by College Soccer News, eighth by Top Drawer Soccer and occupy the nine spot in the national RPI.
  • Tech ended regular season play with a record of 9-5-3 overall, and 3-4-1 in conference play.

 
The Orange

  • Syracuse is the 10 seed in the ACC Tournament.
  • The Orange tied Boston College 0-0 on Friday.
  • Tajon Buchanan leads the Orange with eight goals for the season.
  • Hendrik Hilpert has 17 saves and a goals against average of 1.16.
  • The Orange finished the regular season with a record of 7-5-4 overall, and 1-4-3 in conference play.

 
 
Last season in the First Round, Virginia Tech defeated NC State on the road 1-0 in overtime. Gaetan Roux scored his first career goal, sending the Hokies into the next round of competition.
In the regular season meeting, the Hokies and the Orange played to a nil-nil score line after 90 minutes, necessitating overtime. Nico Quashie scored the game winner in the 108th minute off of an assist from Camron Lennon.
 
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for ages 5-18 at the gate. Students presenting a valid ACC ID are free.
