Hokies add new thrower Enid Duut to 2018-19 class

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech track and field and cross country director Dave Cianelli announced on Monday the newest addition to the Hokies' family.

The Hokies' throws group, under coach Andrew Dubs, adds talented thrower Enid Duut.

"We could not be more thrilled to be adding Enid Duut to our Virginia Tech family," Dubs said. "From my very first conversation with Enid, it was evident of her outgoing and charismatic personality and her deep passion for throwing.

"Having met her mother, it is clear to see that she comes from an incredible background and supportive family. She has an outstanding work ethic which has allowed her to have the success she has."

Duut placed seventh in the discus at the World Junior Championships this summer with a throw of 48.59 meters (159 feet, 5 inches). The Rotterdam, Netherlands native's top throws are 14.16 meters (46 feet, 5.5 inches) in the shot put, and 53.02 meters (173 feet, 11 inches) in the discus. Duut will be joining the Hokies in January.

"Enid will have an immediate impact for us on both the ACC and NCAA levels," Dubs said." She brings a wealth of experience to Blacksburg, having competed on the highest level at the World Junior Championships in the discus. Not only will she contribute in the discus, but I believe she will have a tremendous impact in the shot put as well for our program.

"She fit in extremely well with our team and the other throwers on her visit, and everyone is excited that Enid has decided to join Hokie Nation. I look forward to Enid arriving to campus in January and beginning to work with her."
