Strickler named ACC’s Offensive Player of the Week

BLACKSBURG – On the heels of a week where he spearheaded the Virginia Tech men's soccer team's attack that scored nine goals, in two victories, Kristo Strickler has been named the ACC's Offensive Player of the Week.

In midweek action, Strickler led the Hokies to a 4-0 rout of the visiting William & Mary Tribe, tallying a goal in the first half and providing an assist on the final goal of the night. Then, on Friday night at No. 16 Notre Dame, Stickler led a furious comeback by the Hokies who trailed 2-0 at the half. In the 46th minute though, the sophomore was on the score sheet beating the keeper at the near post. In the 59th minute, Strickler scored the game winner with a fantastic curled effort to the far post, his eighth goal of the season. He also earned an assist as part of the buildup to the Hokies' fourth goal as they went on to win 5-2.

Strickler, who has started all 15 contests for the Hokies, leads the squad with eight goals and has also contributed four assists, for a points tally of 20, joint fifth-most in the league.

The Hokies enter the final week of the regular season with two contests ahead of them, the first a trip to Davidson, North Carolina to take on the Wildcats on Tuesday night and on Friday, finishing out the ACC schedule with a matchup against Duke. That match against the Blue Devils will serve as Senior Night for the program, with kickoff slated to begin at 7 p.m.
