Hokies ranked 15th in AP Top 25 preseason poll

The Virginia Tech men's basketball team is ranked 15th in the Associated Press' preseason poll. The Hokies make the AP preseason poll for the first time since the beginning of the 2010-11 season when Tech was ranked No. 21 to open the season.

The No. 15 ranking ties the Hokies' best ever preseason ranking. Tech was ranked 15th entering the 1984-85 season, while coming off a 22-13 season that saw Tech reach the semifinals of the 1984 NIT.

The Hokies open the 2018-19 season on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. against Gardner-Webb at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. Tech will play an exhibition game at Liberty on Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. The game will benefit hurricane relief efforts.

Virginia Tech is coming off a 21-12 season that saw the Hokies earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The Hokies have won at least 20 games in each of the last three seasons and have won at least 10 Atlantic Coast Conference games in each of the last three seasons.

This marks the fourth time that Tech has entered a season ranked in the AP Top 25. Prior to 2010, Tech was ranked No. 22 entering the 1995-96 season.

The Hokies are one seven ACC teams in the preseason poll, trailing No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Virginia and No. 8 North Carolina and ahead of No. 16 Syracuse, No. 17 Florida State and No. 22 Clemson.
