Seufer named co-ACC Performer of the Week in men’s cross country

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech distance runner Peter Seufer has been named the ACC men's cross country Co-Performer of the Week for the second time this season after he finished second in the men's race at the Penn State National Open held Friday morning in State College, Pennsylvania.

Seufer, a redshirt junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, shared the honor with Syracuse's Aidan Tooker, while Louisville's Emmanuel Cheboson was the men's Freshman of the Week. On the women's side, Louisville's Dorcas Wasike was the Performer of the Week, while Abbey Green of Virginia was the Freshman of the Week.

Seufer, a 2017 All-ACC and All-Southeast Region selection, ran the 5.2-mile race on the Blue-White Golf Course in a time of 24 minutes, 49 seconds, finishing nine seconds behind Eastern Kentucky's James Sugira. He led the Hokies to an eighth-place finish out of 21 teams.

Seufer now has finished first or second in each of the Hokies' past two meets. On Sept. 29, Seufer won the 8K race at the Paul Short Run, finishing in a time of 24:11 and beating Hofstra's Meshack Kipchirchir by 18-hundredths of a second. He led a Tech contingent that placed four runners in the top 10 and finished second out of 41 teams.  His win marked the second of his collegiate career, with his last coming in 2016 when he won the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite.

Both Virginia Tech squads return to action Oct. 26 when the Hokies travel Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to compete in the ACC Championship. The women's 6K race starts at 10 a.m., while the men's 8K race begins at 11.
