Hokies set for big weekend of competition

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team is prepped for another weekend of competition, this time heading to New Jersey on Saturday to face Michigan, Princeton and Albany on the campus of Princeton on Saturday, October 13. Then on Sunday, Tech takes on Penn State, Stanford and Georgetown at the U.S. Lacrosse Facility in Sparks, Maryland.
 
Tech has continued to see growth out of its young roster, particularly on the defensive end as the Hokies look to replace several starters from the record breaking 2018 team.
 
Below is a look at the Hokies' opponents on Saturday and how they fared during the 2018 season.
 
Michigan

  • 7-10 overall record in 2018
  • Finished 5th in the Big Ten
  • Started program as varsity sport in 2014-15

 
Princeton

  • 13-6 overall record in 2018 and 6-1 in Ivy League play; conference regular season and tournament champions
  • Lost in Second Round of NCAA Tournament to Boston College
  • Program has 16 Ivy League regular season titles, four Ivy League tournament titles, has appeared in 26 NCAA tournaments, and has three national championships

 
Albany

  • 9-9 overall record in 2018 and 6-1 in in America East play
  • Finished 2nd in America East and lost in conference championship game
  • Has appeared in the NCAA tournament four times in its history

Penn State

  • Lost to Penn in the first round of 2018 NCAA Tournament
  • Program has qualified for the NCAA Tournament 23 times and captured 5 national titles

 
 
Stanford

  • 15-5 overall record in 2018 and 8-2 in Pac-12 play, finishing 2nd
  • Defeated Colorado in Pac-12 Championship game to win inaugural Pac-12 Tournament
  • Lost in the first round of 2018 NCAA Tournament to Virginia
  • Have claimed 17 conference tournament championships, 14 regular season conference titles and has eight NCAA Tournament appearances

 
Georgetown

  • 12-7 overall record in 2018 and 7-1 in Big East play
  • Qualified for NCAA Tournament in 2018, losing to the Hokies 13-10 in the First Round
  • As a program, has appeared in 15 NCAA Tournaments and three Final Fours
