Seufer named co-ACC Performer of the Week in men’s cross country

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech distance runner Peter Seufer has been named the ACC men's cross country Co-Performer of the Week after winning the men's 8K gold race at the Paul Short Run held at Lehigh University this past Saturday.

Seufer, a redshirt junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, shared the honor with Louisville freshman Emmanuel Cheboson, who also was the league's Freshman of the Week. On the women's side, Louisville's Dorcas Wasike was the Player of the Week, while Elizabeth Funderburk of Florida State was the Freshman of the Week.

Seufer, a 2017 All-ACC and All-Southeast Region selection, ran the race in 24 minutes, 11 seconds and beat Hofstra's Meshack Kipchirchir by 18-hundredths of a second. He led a Tech contingent that placed four runners in the top 10 and finished second out of 41 teams. The Hokies scored 80 points, coming in just three points behind winner Utah State in the battle for the team title.

Seufer's win marked the second of his collegiate career. In 2016, he won the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite.

Both Virginia Tech squads return to action Oct. 12 when they travel back to the Keystone State to compete in the Penn State National Open. The meet, which starts at 11 a.m., serves as the final one before the ACC Championship slated for Oct. 26.
