Hokies eighth entering final round at Duke

The Virginia Tech men's golf team posted a two-round total of 9-over 585 on Saturday and is in eighth place at the Rod Myers Invitational. The two-day event is being played at the 7,154-yard, par 72 Duke University Golf Course in Durham, N.C.
 
The Hokies shot 294 in the morning's opening round and improved to a 291 in the afternoon round.
 
Connor Burgess, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia, leads the Hokies. He shot a 2-under 142 and is tied for eighth place. He trails leader John Pak of Florida State by 11 strokes.
 
Connor Johnson Jr., a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 12th at 1-under 143 and Joey Jordan, a senior from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 39th at 149. Tom Crow, a junior from Virginia Beach, Virginia, is tied for 55th at 152 and Drew Brockwell, a freshman from Chesterfield, Virginia, is tied for 59th at 153. Johnson posted two rounds par-or-better, including a 1-under 71 in the first round, his first collegiate round.
 
Penn State holds the lead entering Sunday's final round. The posted an 11-under 565, one stroke ahead of North Carolina and nine strokes ahead of host Duke. Florida State is fourth at 575, Liberty is fifth at 579, Cincinnati is sixth at 580 and ETSU is seventh, three strokes ahead of the Hokies. ECU is ninth at 593, UNCG is 10th at 594, Florida Southern is 11th at 597, Princeton is 12th at 601 and Nebraska is 13th at 610.
 
The final round will be played Sunday. The Hokies will be grouped with ETSU and ECU, beginning at 9:15 a.m. from the 10th tee. Live scoring is available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
