Tech cross country squads return to action Saturday

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech cross country teams return to action Saturday when both squads compete in the gold race at the Paul Short Run held on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
 
The day-long event includes approximately 6,000 runners from nearly 450 colleges and high schools. The men's gold race features 44 teams, including Tech's fellow ACC foe Wake Forest, along with in-state foes William & Mary, Richmond and Christopher Newport. The women's gold race includes No. 14 Utah State, along with in-state teams such as James Madison, Richmond and William & Mary.
 
The event marked the Hokies' first road meet this season – they competed in two home meets to start the 2018 campaign.

OTHER NOTES
• Tech's staff plans to compete 12 runners on both the men's and women's squads in this race.
 
• The group on the women's side includes redshirt freshman Emily Schiesl and junior Sarah Edwards, both of whom have won their first collegiate races this season. Schiesl won the Virginia Tech Invitational (4K) on Aug. 31, while Edwards won the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite on Sept. 14.
 
• Shannon Quinn set a personal-best time for a 6K race at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite, coming in 17th with a time of 23 minutes, 39.4 seconds.
 
• The men's team will be led by 2017 All-ACC and All-Southeast Region choice Peter Seufer, who made his season debut two weeks ago at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite. Seufer, redshirt sophomore Fitsum Seyoum and redshirt freshman Ben Fleming came in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively at that meet.
 
• Redshirt freshman Will Griffen will be making his season debut on the men's side.
