Hokies fall on the road Friday night

RALEIGH, NC – The No. 14 Virginia Tech men's soccer team fell 1-0 Friday night at league rival and eighteenth ranked NC State.

State took the lead through Tanner Roberts' header at the back post as he made a late run to meet the cross from the right flank from Simon Blotko.

Kristo Strickler held up play all night long and was able to turn his defender, but the forward had his best opportunity of the match blocked by the defense. He also placed a shot on target that forced a save from State's keeper Leon Krampf.

In the final minutes, the Hokies were pressing for the equalizer and threw numbers forward to good affect earning a corner kick and sending in dangerous crosses into the box. The best chance of the night fell to Sivert Haugli who had a free header at the back post, but the freshman was unable to keep it down and it sailed over the bar.

Tech came close to finding a goal earlier in the match when David Sanz's header beat the keeper but couldn't beat the post.

Hokies' goalkeeper Mathijs Swaneveld was steady in goal all night long making six saves over the course of the 90 minutes.
