MILWAUKEE – Virginia Tech junior men's tennis player Henrik Korsgaard advanced to the finals at the Milwaukee Classic, finishing as runner-up on Sunday at the ITA sanctioned event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
 
Korsgaard opened the day with a win in the semifinals, taking the first set 6-3 over Tennessee's Luca Wiedenmann. In the second set, the Vols player rallied to win it 6-2 and force the third. Korsgaard powered back to win the final set 6-2.
 
In the finals, Korsgaard faced Alabama's Patrick Kaukovalta where the two played a tight opening set and were tied as late as 6 to go into a tiebreak. The two kept it close in the breaker, but the Kaukovalta held on to get the final two points, winning it 7-5(5). In the second set, Korsgaard fell behind and Kaukovalta picked up the 6-1 win.
 
The Hokies will be back on the court Sept. 29-Oct. 8 at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

DAY THREE
BLACKSBURG –
Junior Henrik Korsgaard advanced to the semifinals on Saturday for the Virginia Tech men's tennis team at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Teammate Mitch Harper battled to three sets, but fell in the semifinals at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, California.
 
MILWAUKEE CLASSIC
Korsgaard had to finish up a singles match that had been postponed from Friday. He faced Tenessee freshman Pat Harper, brother of Tech senior Mitch Harper. After giving up the first set 7-5, Korsgaard and Pat were tied at 2 in the second when the match was suspended. The two resumed play and Korsgaard powered to the win, taking the set 6-4. In the final set, the Tech player rolled to take it 6-2.
 
In the quarterfinals, Korsgaard downed USC's Jake Devine with straight set scores of 6-4, 6-2.
 
Korsgaard was also on the court in doubles with teammate Alex Ribeiro. The two took their first two matches handily as they downed San Diego's Joel Gamerov and David Norfeldt 6-4. In the second match they dropped Notre Dame's Grayson Broadus and Guillermo Cabrera 6-2.
 
The two advanced into the semifinals where they fell 8-5 to the Cal duo of Can Kaya and Dominic Barretto.
 
Korsgaard will face Tennessee's Luca Widenmann on Sunday.

ITA MASTERS
Mitch Harper faced Southern Cal's Laurens Verboven in the semifinals at the ITA Masters. The two kept the match close and were tied in the first set at five before the Trojans' player claimed the final two points to win it 7-5.
 
In the second set, Harper came back strong to roll to the 6-1 win and force the deciding set. Verboven held the advantage through most of the set to secure a spot in the finals, 6-2.

DAY TWO
BLACKSBURG
– Senior Mitch Harper advanced to the semifinals at the ITA Masters for the Virginia Tech men's tennis team on Friday evening in Malibu, California.
 
ITA MASTERS
Harper, ranked No. 12, battled to a pair of wins today. In the round of 16, Harper faced Baylor's No. 33 Johannes Schretter. After dropping the first set 6-3 to the Bears' player, Harper responded to win the second 6-4. In the final set, Harper trailed at 4-2 before rallying to claim the next four points to take the win 6-4.
 
In the next round, Harper took the opening set in a tiebreak against Texas' No. 29 and top-seeded Yuya Ito 7-6(4). Yuya came back to win the second 6-3. In the final set, Harper rolled to take the match 6-1.
 
Harper will face USC's No. 81 Laurens Verboven in the semifinals.

Milwaukee Classic
Hokies got on the court in doubles to start the day with No. 12 Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro defeating Navy's Greg Durham and Peter Lohrbach 8-3.
 
Both Tech players continued their winning ways into singles as No. 101 rallied to knock off VCU's Inigo Torre Martin, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. In his second match of the day, Ribeiro fell to Iowa's Will Davies 6-3, 6-3.
 
Korsgaard took his first singles match of the day, rolling past Illinois Noe Khalif 6-3, 6-2. In the second match, Korsgaard faced Tennessee's Pat Harper, brother of Korsgaard's teammate Mitch Harper. The match was suspend in the second set with Pat Harper having won the first 7-5, but the two were tied at three in the second. They will resume play on Saturday morning.

The Virginia Tech men's tennis team is off to a strong start as members of the team compete at both the Oracle ITA Masters and the Milwaukee Classic.
 
ITA MASTERS – Malibu, California
Mitch Harper, ranked No. 12 in the ITA, rolled in his opening round of singles, advancing past Dayton's No. 77 Jordan Benjamin with straight set scores 6-3, 6-0.
 
Harper teamed up with Miami's Estela Perez-Somarriba in mixed doubles. The pair trailed 4-2 against Cleveland State's Nico Mostardi and Northern Kentucky's Margia Sunjic, but Harper and Perez-Somarriba rallied to win it 6-4. The ACC duo fell in their second match 6-3 to UCSB's Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and Pepperdine's Adrijana Lekaj.
 
Harper will face Baylor's No. 33 Johannes Schetter in the next round.

MILWAUKEE CLASSIC – Milwaukee, Wis.
The Hokies also got off to a hot start at the Milwaukee Classic, winning all four opening round singles matches.
 
Jason Kros, ranked No. 117, downed Wisconsin's Jesper Freimuth in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Henrik Korsgaard also secured the straight set win, defeated Notre Dame's Matt Gamble 6-2 in the first set. The second set was close as it went to a tiebreak where Korsgaard rolled to win it 7-6(3).
 
No. 101 Alex Ribeiro fell behind, dropping the first set 6-3 to Marquette's Luis Heredia-Gomez. The Tech player rallied to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.
 
Carlo Donato also went to three sets after being edged in the first set tiebreak, 7-6(6) by San Diego's David Norfeldt. The Tech sophomore powered back to roll in the second and third, securing the match 6-2, 6-0.
 
Doubles were postponed and play will resume on Friday in Milwaukee.
