Tech heads to Raleigh to face Wolfpack Friday evening

BLACKSBURG – After a 5-1 win over Longwood on Tuesday, the Hokies are looking to keep that momentum going as they travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to face NC State on Friday.

Hokies notes 

  • The Hokies are ranked No. 14 in the United Soccer Coach's Poll. It is the team's highest ranking of the 2018 season to date. 
  • Tech beat NC State 1-0 last season in the ACC Tournament.
  • The Hokies have won four of the last five match ups against NC State dating back to 2012. 
  • Tech is coming off of a 5-1 win over Longwood. Four of the five goals were scored in the first half. 
  • Captain Jon Ingason, has scored in three consecutive matches, matching Kristo Strickler's streak from earlier in the season. All three strikes have come from set pieces, two penalties and a free kick.
  • Strickler was on the score sheet two times himself on Tuesday, bring his team-leading season tally to five.

Notes on the Wolfpack

  • The Wolfpack are ranked No. 18 in the United Soccer Coach's Poll. 
  • State has not played a game since September 11, after postponing their last two contests. Before postponing, the Wolfpack was previously ranked No. 6. 
  • The Wolfpack's only loss this season has been 3-0 loss to No.1 Wake Forest. 
  • NC State is 4-0-0 in Raleigh this season. 
  • The Wolfpack has been without 2017 ACC Freshman of the Year Manny Perez due to his selection to the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team.  
  • Head Coach George Kiefer is in his second season at the helm of the Wolfpack.
