Top Notes for the Hokies (link to Game Notes pdf packet)

Tech to open ACC slate on the road in the Sunshine State

  • Due to Hurricane Florence, last week's scheduled ACC opener against Virginia at Thompson Field was postponed and will now be played next Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. To make the schedule work, the Pittsburgh game has also been pushed back a day and will now kick off at 4 p.m. next Sunday (9/30).
  • The Hokies now open their 2018 ACC schedule in the Sunshine State, first taking on No. 7 Florida State Thursday night (9/20) before traveling to Miami to face the Hurricanes on Sunday (9/23).
  • In its history, Tech is just 2-10-2 all-time in the state of Florida, with its only two wins against Miami during the 2006 (2-1) and 2014 (2-0) seasons. In the Sunshine State, the Hokies are winless in seven matches against the Seminoles and hold a 2-3-2 mark against Miami.
  • See more on Tech's history versus these two opponents on page 2 of the game notes.

Hokies reaches two milestones this season; approaching one more

  • Tech opened its 26th season of women's soccer with a pair of draws against San Diego (8/17) and then-No. 22 Georgetown (8/19). The Sunday match against the Hoyas was the 500th match in school history. In those first 500 games, Tech held a 247-210-43 overall record.
  • With its 3-0 victory at Villanova on Sept. 7, the Hokies chalked up their 250th career win in program history, reaching the milestone in its 506th overall match.
  • Tech head coach Chugger Adair enters the weekend just one victory shy of 100 in his coaching career, as he currently holds a 99-41-18 all-time mark.
  • In eight seasons under Adair, Tech is 67-4-7 in nonconference regular-season games.

McGlynn notches fourth clean sheet, season-long third in a row

  • This season, the Hokies' goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn has allowed just four goals through 780 minutes played, notching four wins and four shutouts.
  • Of note on those four goals surrendered, one of them was a penalty kick (vs. High Point, 8/26) while another was an own goal (at Alabama).
  • She currently has not allowed a goal in 364 consecutive minutes, her career long (non-consecutive playing minutes) is 469:13, while her current three straight shutout streak ties her career long.
  • McGlynn has been climbing the Tech all-time charts in six categories (see page 5 for current list).

All-time leading scorer Murielle Tiernan notes come up twice in one weekend

  • Kelsey Irwin scored a pair of goals in a 3-0 win at Villanova (9/7), becoming the first Hokie with a multi-goal game since Oct. 9, 2016 when Tiernan scored twice in a 3-2 victory at Boston College.
  • Karlie Johnson has scored in back-to-back games, giving her a team-leading four goals this year. The last freshman to lead the team in goals or points was Tiernan in 2013 (11 goals, 27 points).
