Tech prepares to take on Longwood at home Tuesday night

BLACKSBURG — The No. 16 Virginia Tech men's soccer team is preparing to host Longwood University this Tuesday for their second home match of the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Thompson Field with coverage available through ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies (4-1-2, 0-1-1 ACC)
Tech is coming off a 2-1 loss to No. 1 ranked Wake Forest. The Hokies played a gritty match, having to play most of the match a man down after a red card was shown in the 30th minute.
 
Captain Jon Ingason scored off of a penalty kick after James Kasak was taken down by a Wake defender in the 37th minute, the second straight match that the skipper has found the net from a set piece opportunity.
 
Mathijs Swaneveld made seven saves to hold the Deacons to only two goals.
 
The Lancers  (2-3)
Longwood's last match was a tough loss in double overtime to William & Mary on Tuesday, September 11th. The Lancers fell 3-2 after being up 2-0 at the half.
 
Sherif Maalouf found the net within the first five minutes of the game to give the Lancers an early lead. The strike was Maalouf's first goal of the season.  Josh Hanratty followed shortly after to double the Lancers lead.
 
William & Mary snuck two goals in late in the second half to take the game to overtime where they found another goal to defeat the Lancers.
 
The Lancers are led by Mikel Abando and Josh Hanratty who both have two goals so far. Goalkeeper Jacob Reimers has racked up 12 saves in 400 minutes this season.
 
Series History
The Hokies and Lancers have matched up the past two years with Tech coming out on top both times at Thompson Field.
 
The series between Virginia Tech and Longwood University dates back to 1982 with the Hokies leading with an all-time record of 6-4-2.
