BLACKSBURG – Coming off of leading Virginia Tech to its second consecutive ACC championship and its sixth straight top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships, Virginia Tech head coach Tony Robie has finalized the Hokies' schedule for the 2018-19 campaign.
The schedule features five dual meets in Blacksburg against two teams that finished in the top 10 at the 2018 NCAA Tournament and also the return of the ACC Championships to Cassell Coliseum. On the road, the Hokies will face a tough slate of non-conference and ACC opponents, as well participating in two premier midseason tournaments.
The first chance for fans to catch the Hokies will be at the Hokie Open, held in the Berglund Center in Roanoke, on Nov. 4. Tech will then travel to both Missouri (Nov. 16) and Northwestern (Nov. 18) in the same weekend before heading to Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen Invitational from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1. A dual with Princeton on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum kicks off the home schedule.
Tech will ring in 2019 at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee where they will once again face top competition that will boost NCAA Tournament resumes. After road matches at Lehigh, Duke and North Carolina, the Hokies will close out the regular season with three straight home duals. Cornell and reigning 141-pound national champion Yianni Diakomihalis will first travel to Blacksburg on Feb. 15 before Virginia takes the stage at the Moss Arts Center to take on the Hokies on Feb. 16. Tech will then welcome NC State in what's expected to be another highly anticipated dual between the top two teams in the ACC over the last three years.
The Hokies will then seek a three-peat when they serve as hosts for the 2018 ACC Championships at Cassell Coliseum on March 9. After ACCs, the Hokies will conclude the 2018-19 season at the NCAA Championships held this year in Pittsburgh.
