BLACKSBURG - The No. 21 Virginia Tech men's soccer team will be on the road once again, traveling south for a match up against the UNCG Spartans on Tuesday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from UNCG Soccer Stadium. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+ with live stats available on Spartans' website.
The Hokies (3-0-2)
Tech is coming off of a draw at in-state rival and conference foe Virginia 1-1 on Friday afternoon, splitting a Commonwealth Clash point with the Cavaliers. Kristo Strickler was on the score sheet once again for the Hokies, putting one away off of a rebound in the first minute of the game for his third goal of the season. Strickler has scored in each of the last three matches, the longest streak of his career.
The Hokies had opportunities to get a game winner but both Nico Quashie and James Kasak had their shots stopped in double overtime leading to the draw.
The Spartans (2-3)
UNC Greensboro has suffered three consecutive losses to Davidson, High Point, and UTRGV. Each of contests were one-goal games. The Spartans are led in scoring by senior Matt Mattis and sophomore Alex Henderson who have each tallied twice.
Although Mattis and Henderson have the most goals, there are five other players who have racked up points as well.
Series History
The last time the Hokies and Spartans matched up it was in 2015 at Thompson Field, where the Spartans took the game 1-0 in double overtime.
Dating back to 1987, the two the two programs have faced each other 15 times with the Hokies' record in those contests standing at 5-9-1.
