Top Notes for the Hokies (link to Game Notes pdf packet)
Hokies start 2018 with two draws, reach one milestone; approaching a few more

  • Tech opened its 26th season of women's soccer at the school with a pair of draws against San Diego, Friday, and then-No. 22 Georgetown. The Sunday match against the Hoyas was the 500th match in school history. In those first 500 games, Tech held a 247-210-43 overall record.
  • Sitting at 247 victories all-time, it means Tech is just three wins shy of 250 in program history.
  • Tech head women's soccer coach Chugger Adair enters the weekend just five wins shy of 100 in his coaching career - currently with a 95-40-17 mark. All of those wins have come as an ACC coach, and he would become just the 10th women's soccer head coach to reach that total as an ACC coach.
  • Lastly, all-time at Thompson Field, the Hokies hold a 92-41-19 mark, just eight wins shy of 100.

Speaking of draws and overtime

  • In their prior 25 seasons, the Hokies had never opened a campaign with back-to-back ties and this weekend they will be looking for their first victory of the season.
  • Four times, Tech failed to win a game in its first two of the year - 1995 (lost both); 2000 (lost both); 2001 (a tie and a loss); and 2002 (lost both). In 1995, 2000 and 2001, the Hokies won their third match, while the 2002 squad did not pick up its first win until match No. 8.
  • Tech has already played two overtime matches this season after setting a school record with seven overtime games last year, going 1-1-5. The five ties set a single-season school record.
  • In its history, the school record for back-to-back draws is two, now done six times, while Tech has played back-to-back overtime matches 13 times.
  • The most consecutive overtime games played in a single season is four - from Oct. 9-23, 2016 (Tech went 1-1-2 in those four) and IF you go back to last season, when the Hokies finished the season with back-to-back overtime matches in their last two, the streak is now at four as well (Tech is 0-1-3).

This weekend's opponents

  • Versus UNCW: the Hokies have faced the Seahawks twice in program history and are 2-0-0. In the last meeting, Ashley Meier scored just five minutes into the contest while Shannon Mayrose added an insurance tally in the 70th minute for a 2-0 victory on Sept. 7, 2014 in Blacksburg.
  • Versus High Point: the Hokies have faced the Panthers six times in program history and are 6-0-0. Meier also scored the game-winner in Tech's last meeting against High Point, while Ashley Manning netted a pair of goals in Tech's 7-1 victory on Aug. 23, 2013 in Blacksburg
  • Combined, the Hokies are a perfect 6-0 playing on the dates this weekend, picking up two victories on Aug. 24 and four wins on Aug. 26.
