BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech Women's Soccer team found itself down a goal to No. 22 Georgetown just 20 minutes into the first half, however freshman Karlie Johnson scored her first collegiate goal for the Hokies and the team earned a 1-1 tie on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Field.
Georgetown (1-0-1) took its 1-0 advantage shortly after a corner kick in the 20th minute as Caitlin Farrell took a pass from Carson Nizialek and beat Tech goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn for her first goal allowed of the season.
McGlynn responded by making two saves over the next 12 minutes to keep a one-goal deficit for the Hokies.
Tech (0-0-2) would get the equalizer in the 38th minute as Mikayla Mance played a ball wide for Johnson, who then dribbled into the box and shot. Hoyas' goalie Arielle Schechtman got her hands on the ball, but not enough to make the save as the Hokies tied the game (video below).
After the break, Tech limited Georgetown to just three shots, with McGlynn making two more saves (four in the contest), while the Hokies had 12 and forced Schechtman to make six stops.
