Five questions with Morgan Berman

Editor's note: We caught up with rising sophomore goalie Morgan Berman this summer when she was back on campus for camp. The heir apparent to Meagh Graham for the Hokies, Berman saw time in six games during her freshman season, making six saves.

Q: How would you describe the last 12 months since you arrived in Blacksburg?

BERMAN: "It was definitely a big transition. It was hard, but at the same time it taught me how to work because in high school you don't have to work as much as. The teachers baby you kind of and you know you're not really going to fail, but in college they don't care. You have to work. It shocked me at first but I'm excited to get to play with all of my friends. It's so rewarding. All of it is worth it."

Q: Do you remember getting your first appearance in a game and making your first save against ODU in 2018?

BERMAN: "I remember it, it was definitely fun to be able to get out there with all my friends and getting to see what it was going to be like in the future. Getting to learn from Meagh Graham was amazing, she's taught me a lot."

Q: In 2018 you were behind one of the best goalies in the conference and certainly in Tech history; what did you learn from Meagh Graham?

BERMAN: "I learned everything. She's been an inspiration to me and I completely look up to her. Meagh taught me everything from stepping a certain way when they're going to shoot a certain way or just my angles, and what to look for on a clear. It's just helped me so much with adjusting because it is an adjustment from college lacrosse from high school."

Q: Coach Sung is your position coach, what is it like training with him and how does he push you to be a better goalie?

BERMAN: "It's amazing, I've known Coach Sung for about six years and we've always kind of clicked and I think we can do amazing things. He's always pushing me at practice. If I'm not making the saves that I need to be, he'll talk to me and be like 'Come on Morgan you should've had that save' and that gets me fired up because I'm going to have to make that save in a game. He just coaches me up and he always has competition, that's one of his biggest things so if you're not working then you know you could get replaced."

Q: What are some of your goals for the 2019 season?

BERMAN: "I want to play well. Going from backing up Meagh, it's going to be a change coming in but I'm really excited and I think that I just need to step up to be a leader and do my best for the team and make some saves."
