CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Following a record-setting season which culminated in the program's first national championship, James Madison swept the VaSID Lacrosse University Division major awards, as Kristen Gaudian was voted Player of the Year, Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe was named Coach of the Year and Molly Dougherty was tabbed Rookie of the Year, the Virginia Sports Information Directors announced Tuesday.
Additionally, the organization voted 11 players to the VaSID University Division Women's Lacrosse First Team and recognized an additional 11 players that earned second-team honors. The national-champion Dukes had five players named to the first team with Virginia following with four and Richmond securing the final two slots.
Virginia Tech was represented by three student-athletes; freshman Paige Petty and seniors Tristan McGinley and Kelly Glatthorn who all received second team honors. It is the first VaSID selection for each player.
Petty, a freshman from Bernardsville, N.J., scored 58 goals and 65 points during the 2018 season, both team highs. The midfielder also tallied 55 draw controls and grabbed 22 ground balls on the season. Petty lead the conference in goals during ACC play, scoring 25 times. She scored seven goals on the road versus Louisville to key the Hokies' come from behind victory and has recorded game winning goals against Notre Dame and Elon. Petty has already collected first team All-ACC and an IWLCA first team All-South region accolades.
McGinley, an attacker and two-time Tewaaraton Award Watch List member earned First Team All-ACC accolades in 2018, a season that saw her score 51 points including 48 goals. The Moorestown, New Jersey native scored two game-winners, vaulting the Hokies to victories over Denver and Syracuse.
Her 96 draws in 2018 reset the record that she had set in 2017 when she had 95.
She ranks fifth all-time in goals (129), eighth in total points (146) and third in draw controls (244) in Tech history.
A starter for all 21 games of the 2018 season, Glatthorn earned First Team All-ACC honors in 2018 for her play in the defense and also on the draw circle where she corralled 50 draws this past season. Glatthorn tallied 83 ground balls, 44 caused turnovers and 99 draw controls during her career and also scored 14 points. Additionally, she was an IWLCA First Team All-South Region selection in 2018.
The Norristown, Pennsylvania native has also recorded three points, including scoring a goal versus Old Dominion.
The Hokies set program records for wins in 2018 as well as ACC wins and had their first ever victories in the ACC Championships and NCAA Championships. McGinley, Glatthorn and the rest of the senior class graduated as the most successful in program history, recording 34 victories.
