BLACKSBURG – For the first time in program history, the Virginia Tech lacrosse (13-6) team has earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Sunday night, the Hokies learned that they were included in the 27-team field for the 2018 Championship via NCAA.com's Selection Show and are headed to the Chapel Hill region to face Georgetown.

The First Round will take place on Friday, May 11.

The 2018 season has been a banner year for the Hokies' program, already setting records in total wins as well as ACC wins. For the first time, Tech was represented by four student-athletes on the ACC's First Team; Tristan McGinley, Paige Petty, Kelly Glatthorn and Meagh Graham.

With a 9-1 record, Tech has the most home wins in program history during the 2018 campaign.

Tech earned its first ACC Tournament victory at the conference tournament last week.

The Hokies secured the program's first ever wins over Notre Dame, Louisville and Syracuse this season.

Petty leads the Hokies in scoring, tallying 51 goals and seven assists on the season, including a seven goal performance in the win at Louisville.

The Hokies' defense is anchored by Graham a redshirt senior goalie who owns a 10.99 goals against average and 141 saves.

The women's lacrosse tournament features 27 teams, 14 automatic qualifiers from their conference tournaments and 13 teams selected at large. Each of the first two rounds is played at regional campus sites, at the home field of the top eight seeds.

The Final Four will be hosted at Stony Brook's Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
