Hokies shut out No. 43 Miami, 7-0

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team picked up its fourth consecutive ACC win on Sunday afternoon, shutting out 43rd-ranked Miami 7-0 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech (14-6, 5-5 ACC) opened the day with winning the doubles point over the 'Canes (12-8, 3-5 ACC). Mitch Harper and Carlo Donato paired up for a 6-3 win over Bojan Jankulovski and Dane Dunlop on court two. The deciding point came on court one where Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro trailed 1-4 before winning five straight games to defeat 26th-ranked Adria Soriano and Christian Langmo, 6-4.

The Hokies pushed their lead to 2-0 with a win from Korsgaard on court four, rolling past Jankulovski 6-2, 6-3. Freddy Mesmer gave the Hokies a 3-0 advantage as he downed Tatsuki Shimamoto 6-3, 6-1 at the six.

Freshman Donato clinched the match for Tech with his win on court five, defeating Niclas Genovese 6-2, 6-3.

The Hokies kept the wins going in the top half the lineup with Ribeiro downing Dunlap in straight sets at three, 6-2, 6-3. Tech's 39th-ranked Harper took the first set 6-2 against 107th-ranked Christian Langmo, but the two kept it close in the second set going to a tiebreak on court one. Harper clinched the win 7-6(5).

The final point came at two where Jason Kros faced 68th-ranked Soriano. Kros fell in the opening set 1-6, but powered back in the second as the two were tied at 6-6 before Kros rolled in the tiebreak 7-6(2). The deciding point was played out in third-set super tiebreak with Kros securing it 10-5 to complete the shutout.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court next weekend, hosting VCU in a non-conference match at noon on Sunday, April 15.
