This week for Tech: The Hokies will play a pair of midweek games at Radford and at home against Old Dominion. Tech hasn't seen the Highlanders since the Hokies' first home game of the season (Feb. 27), when they walked off with a 3-2 win in 12 innings – Jack Owenswith the game-winning RBI. Tech last played the Monarchs on May 16, 2017 in Norfolk, as Tom Stoffel hit a two-run home run and scored three times in the Hokies' 8-4 victory. Tech ends the week with a three-game ACC series at Notre Dame.

Hokies versus Radford: Virginia Tech holds a 45-14 overall mark against Radford and has won three in a row in the series, including this season's 12-inning affair at English Field at Union Park). Away from Blacksburg, Tech holds a 20-11mark and ended a two-game losing streak in Radford last year with its 17-6 runaway win on April 11. Tom Stoffel (three hits, two runs, two RBI) and Stevie Mangrum (two hits, three runs, four RBI) both hit home runs, while Mangrum and Sam Fragale (two hits, two runs, three RBI) each had a double to pace the offense. Andrew McDonald picked up the win on the mound after four innings and four strikeouts. The game also marked Stoffel's first career start on the mound.

Hokies versus the Monarchs: Virginia Tech leads the overall series at 60-17, including a three-game winning streak overall and six straight in Blacksburg. Tech is 30-6 all-time at home and 7-3 at English Field at Union Park. The last two meetings, both in Norfolk, Tech has outscored Old Dominion, 30-5, including a 22-1 decision back in 2016 (Feb. 27), when Phil Sciretta had five hits and seven RBI in the victory. The last time Old Dominion visited English Field at Union Park was Feb. 28, 2001, more than 17 years ago, a 6-5 Tech win. The last time the Monarchs left with a victory here was April 5, 1994 – by a score of 7-6.

Midweek success: Entering the day, the Hokies are currently 6-1 in midweek games (Tuesdays/Wednesdays), which includes a three-game winning streak. Their only loss of the seven was an extra-inning contest at home against Liberty on March 27, dropping the game 4-3 in 10 frames. Last week, Tech won a home-and-home with Marshall, scoring 11 runs in each victory. Wednesday's game saw an incredible finish as the Hokies erased a five-run deficit in the seventh and scored three runs in the ninth – all with two outs to escape with the win.
