CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team faltered on the road Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 16 Miami 4-0 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Tech (12-9, 3-9 ACC) fell behind after the doubles point as the Hurricanes won the matches on courts three and one.
Miami (13-6, 9-3 ACC) kept it going and clinched the team victory with straight set wins on courts six, one and three. The Hokies were up a set in two of the three unfinished matches.
On court four, Nina Sorkin had won the first set 6-2 over Ana Madcur, but trailed 3-4 in the second when it went unfinished. Katherine Butler had the win in the first set against Ulayan Shirokova on court five, but the 'Canes player held the 4-0 advantage in the second.
Caroline Daxhelet was battling with No. 64 Sinead Lohan at the two. Daxhelet gave up the first set 6-2, but came back to win the second 6-3. She was down 1-0 in the third before the match was decided.
The Hokies will wrap up the regular season next weekend, hosting No. 2 Georgia Tech on Friday at 3 p.m. before traveling to No. 4 Duke on Sunday for a noon match.
