The Virginia Tech men's golf team has a two round total of 586 and is in 13th place at the 3M Augusta Invitational. The two-day event is being played at the par 72, 7,005-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Tech shot a 300 in the morning round, but improved to a 2-under 286 in the afternoon round on Saturday.
Slade Pickering, a freshman from North West, South Africa and Mark Lawrence Jr., a junior from Richmond, Virginia are tied for 26th individually at 1-over 145. The duo is nine strokes behind Dylan Meyer of Illinois. Pickering eagled the par 5, 569-yard 11th hole in the morning round. Lawrence's 70 in the afternoon round was the Hokies' best round of the day.
Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia, is tied for 41st place at 147. Connor Burgess, a freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia, is tied for 62nd at 152 and Joey Jordan, a junior from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 68th at 154.
Illinois holds the team lead entering the final round. The Illini have a 12-under 564, six strokes ahead of Tennessee and eight strokes ahead of Wake Forest. Houston is fourth at 574, Georgia State and South Carolina are tied for fifth at 576, Kennesaw State is seventh at 577 and UCLA, USC Aiken and host Augusta are tied for eighth at 579. Marquette and New Mexico are tied for 11th at 582, four strokes ahead of the Hokies. UCF is 14th at 587 and Navy is 15th at 604.
