BLACKSBURG – Due to weather conditions in the New River Valley, Virginia Tech athletics has announced Wednesday's baseball game at English Field at Union Park versus Bryant cancelled.
With the cancellation, Tech will now turn its attention to its first ACC road weekend series at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The Hokies and Yellow Jackets are scheduled to start the series on Friday at Russ Chandler Stadium with first pitch set for 6 p.m., while Saturday is a 2 p.m. start and Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m. All three games will be available on the ACC Network Extra package.
Virginia Tech (8-8, 2-1 ACC) opened its ACC schedule with a 2-1 series win over Pittsburgh, taking the ACC opening series for just the third time in its history – at No. 21 Georgia Tech (2-1) in 2007 and versus Maryland (2-1) in 2010. The Hokies also won the first two games against the Panthers, which marked the first time in school history they started ACC play 2-0.
The Hokies' Saturday 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh was also the 400th in John Szefc's head coaching career. Szefc, who is Tech's 25th head coach in program history and is in his first season leading the team, had previously won 180 games in five seasons at Maryland (2013-17) and 212 games in seven years at Marist (1996-2002).
