No. 30 Tech to host Syracuse, travel to No. 12 Wake

BLACKSBURG – The 30th-ranked Virginia Tech women's tennis team is set for a pair of weekend ACC matches beginning with a home match against Syracuse on Friday before hitting the road to face No. 12 Wake Forest on Sunday.

THE HOKIES (8-0, 1-0 ACC)
Virginia Tech is coming off a 7-0 win over No. 27 Clemson the last time out. The Hokies picked up the doubles point and won three singles matches in straight sets including No. 61 Natalie Novotna, Elena Cerezo-Codina and Nika Kozar. Caroline Daxhelet and Katherine Butler also claimed wins in singles while the Hokies also secured a point via forfeit at six.

Cerezo-Codina is 6-0 this spring while Novotna, Daxhelet and Butler are all adding 7-1 tallies. Sorkin and Kozar are 6-1 this spring. Tech's 8-0 start is the program's best since starting the same way in 2004.

THE ORANGE (8-1, 1-1 ACC)
Syracuse gave up just one point to Harvard the last time out, winning the doubles point and five of six singles matches. The Orange picked up points from No. 18 Gabriela Knutson, Miranda Ramirez, Sofya Golubovskaya, Libi Mesh and Maria Tritou. Knutson and Ramirez are ranked 19th in the doubles standings and are 6-0 in duals.

Knutson has a 7-0 record this spring while Ramirez is 7-1. Golubovskayais adding a 6-1 mark.

THE DEMON DEACONS (8-3, 0-1 ACC)
Wake Forest fell to Illinois 4-3 last weekend at the Blue-Gray Classic. The Deacs took the 1-0 lead, winning the doubles point. Illinois came back in singles with the Deacs picking up points from Anna Ulyashchenko and M.C. Meredith. Emma Davis enters the weekend ranked 33rd in the ITA while Eliza Omirou is 63rd. Davis is also ranked in doubles at 31st with teammate Chandler Carter.

Davis is 9-1 this spring while Ulyashchenko is adding a 7-1 clip. Meredith is 7-3 and Omirou 6-3.

UP NEXT: The Hokies make the trip to Norfolk, Virginia for a pair of non-conference matches. Tech will face host team Old Dominion at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 9 followed by a March 10 neutral site match versus Tulane at 1 p.m.
