Hokie ClubThe Virginia Tech men’s golf team has a two-round total of 608 and is in 15th place at the Puerto Rico Classic on Monday. The three-day event is being played at the par 71, 6,716-yard Ocean Course at the Westin Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Tech shot a 299 in Sunday’s first round and followed that with a 309 in the second round.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a junior from Richmond, Virginia, leads the Hokies with a 5-over 147. He is tied for 39th place individually, 12 strokes behind Lee Hodges of Alabama. Lawrence shot a 1-over 73 in the second round, Tech’s best round of the day.
Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia, is tied for 52nd place at 151 and Connor Burgess, a freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia, is tied for 60th place at 153. Blake Fiest, a junior from Huntersville, North Carolina, is in 72nd place with 159 and Dan Woodbury, a senior from Upton, Massachusetts, is 75th place at 164.
Georgia Tech has moved into the lead, with a two-day total of 6-under 562, five strokes ahead of host Purdue and eight strokes ahead of first round leader Oklahoma, Clemson and NC State. Alabama is sixth at 578, Middle Tennessee State is seventh at 579, Georgia is eighth at 580, Marquette is ninth at 583 and Ohio State is 10th at 585. Maryland and UNC Greensboro are tied for 11th at 588, East Carolina is 13th at 589 and Kentucky is 14th at 590, 18 strokes ahead of the Hokies.
