TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team dropped the doubles point, but rallied back in singles, winning four to claim a 4-1 win over Penn State on Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Henrik Korsgaard got the Hokies (3-1) on the board with his straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win over Alp Sentay at four.
At the one, 68th-ranked Mitch Harper rolled in the opening set 6-1 over 67th-ranked Constant De La Bassetiere. The two battled it out in the second set and were tied at 5-5, but Harper won the next two points to secure the set 7-5.
Jason Kros, ranked 80th, fell behind, dropping the first set 0-6 to Christian Lakoseljac on court two. Kros powered back as he took the next two 6-3, 6-2, giving the Hokies the 3-1 lead in the match.
Tech was looking for the match clinching point with the remaining singles all in the third set. \
Sophomore No. 97 Alexandre Ribeiro gave up the opening set, 3-6 to Christos Antonopoulos at the three. The Tech player answered, winning the second set 6-4 before rolling to the 6-1 win in the third to clinch the match for the Hokies.
Virginia Tech will return to the court on Friday, Feb. 2, hosting Eastern Kentucky and James Madison in a doubleheader at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
