Gunnarsson claims school record at Bob Pollack Invitational

Bob Pollack Invitational Results

CLEMSON, S.C. – Freshman Lisa Gunnarsson won her third straight meet and set a school record in the indoor pole vault event at the Bob Pollack Invitational on the campus of Clemson Friday evening inside the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.

Gunnarsson, a native of Sweden, vaulted a height of 4.46 meters (14 feet, 7.5 inches) to pass Martina Schultze’s mark of 4.45 meters (14 ft., 7.25 in.) set in 2013. The freshman’s mark also reset the Clemson facility record, which happened to be owned by Schultze, too.

The mark ranks second nationally and first in the ACC.

“The women vaulters did a really nice job today,” director of track and field and cross country Dave Cianelli said. “All three are ready to jump personal bests very soon, and Lisa [Gunnarsson] setting a new school record in the pole vault was the highlight."

Fellow freshman Rachel Baxter finished in second, her third consecutive week of doing so, with a mark of 4.25 meters (13 ft., 11.25 in.). Redshirt senior Olivia Privitera tied her season-best mark of 3.85 meters (12 ft., 7.5 in.), placing eighth.

“I’m proud of how the women vaulters competed today,” pole vault coach Bob Phillips said. “They have some big goals and today was a nice step towards those.”

The jumps/multi-events group were also in the Palmetto State, as James Holt tallied a personal best with a mark of 6.90 meters (22 ft., 7.5 in.) to place eighth, while Mackenzie Muldoon turned in a time of 8.39 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles in the preliminaries. It was 0.01 off of tying his PR.

"Mackenzie Muldoon had a strong day," Cianelli commented. "He is really looking good for his first heptathlon next week at Akron."

Select sprinters made the trek to Clemson, as Shanel Burr ran in the 60 hurdles, posting her first top-10 finish of the year among collegiate athletes and Nathan Hogye ran a personal-best time in the 400.

The group at Clemson will stay and start tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET, and the distance group will begin at 9:45 a.m. at the Liberty Kickoff.
