BLACKSBURG – One home event on May 3, the Hokie Twilight, highlights the 2018 Virginia Tech track and field schedule, as announced by director of track and field and cross country Dave Cianelli.
Due to renovations at Rector Field House, the Hokies will hit the road for all of their meets during the indoor season. For video of how the renovations are coming along, click here.
The reigning ACC champions will begin competition on Jan. 12-13 at Penn State before breaking up and going to three meets (Indiana, Clemson, VMI) the following weekend on Jan. 19-20. Tech will head back to Clemson to close the month of January.
The Hokies will compete in six meets in the month of February, including two trips to Wake Forest, a trip to SEC territory in Kentucky and Vanderbilt, and Clemson. To close the month, Tech will head back to Clemson for the fourth time during the indoor season, as the Tigers play host to the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-24, marking the third time Clemson has been the host of the event since 2004.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will once again be held by Texas A&M in College Station, as the two-day event takes place March 9-10. Ten Hokies were named All-Americans last spring in the Lone Star State, and of the 10, eight will be back for more.
Kicking off the outdoor season with a bang, Tech will travel to SEC members South Carolina and Florida, Big 12 member Texas and fellow ACC foe NC State the last two weekends in March.
Auburn, Duke and Virginia will be on April 20-21, as Tech splits up, followed by a trip to Arkansas to close the month of April. The final weekend of the regular season will take place in two locations, as the Hokies head to Liberty on May 2 and then turn back around and play host to the Hokie Twilight on May 3, marking Tech’s only home meet of the season.
After its final tune-up in Blacksburg, Tech goes down to The Sunshine State to compete in the ACC Outdoor Championships at Miami. Last spring, Tech had a weekend to remember at ACCs, as both the men and women took first and look to repeat going into 2018.
The NCAA East Preliminaries will be in Tampa, Florida from May 24-26, followed by the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon. The Ducks have played host to the final round for collegiate runners every year since 2013. The Hokies placed 12 All-Americans last time out at Hayward Field.
