BLACKSBURG – Redshirt senior Jared Haught, the consesnsus No. 2 wrestler in the country at 197 pounds, has chosen to withdraw from Sunday’s NWCA All-Star Classic and will wrestle this weekend in No. 9 Virginia Tech’s season opener vs. No. 21 Stanford on Carilion Clinic Court on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
“In Jared’s quest for a national title, we both decided that it’s in his and the team’s best interest to remain in Blacksburg as we face a tough top 25 opponent in Stanford this Saturday,” head coach Tony Robie said. “On behalf of Jared and the Virginia Tech wrestling program, we would like to thank the NWCA for extending Jared this opportunity.”
Haught is a two-time All-American and the reigning ACC champion at 197. The Parkersburg, West Virginia native was also named the 2017 ACC Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
