Hokies with wins on day two of ITA Nationals

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Mitch Harper and Henrik Korsgaard claimed wins for the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team on Friday at the ITA Fall National Championships.

Harper, ranked 122nd, picked up a singles win in the consolation draw. The Tech junior trailed New Mexico’s Ricky Hernandez Tong 5-3 in the opening set before powering back to win four straight games to win it 7-5. Harper rolled in the second set 6-1.

In consolation doubles, Harper teamed up with Henrik Korsgaard to down Pacific’s duo of Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Oliveira 6-1, 6-2.

The Hokies will return to the court on Saturday in the next round of consolation draw.
