BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s swimming and diving team has been ranked 19th in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America preseason poll while the women’s team is receiving votes.
Tech’s men return 21 student-athletes from last year’s team that finished fourth at the ACC Championships, marking the eighth consecutive season the Hokies have finished in the top-4. The Hokies also welcome an incoming class ranked ninth in the nation by SwimSwam. Returning for the men’s team are 10 Virginia Tech top-5 time/score holders, including Ian Ho, Norbert Szabo, Michael Craddock, Hassler Carroll, Sean Workman, Jake Lamparella, Harrison Pierce, Ben Schiesl, Mauro Castro-Silva and Thomas Shinholser.
On the women’s side, 25 student-athletes return to a team that finished in the top-5 at the ACC Championships, including All-Americans Ashlynn Peters, Reka Gyorgy and Klaudia Nazieblo. They join other Virginia Tech top-5 time/score holders: Maggie Gruber, Adriana Grabski, Jenna Beattie, Grace Kowal, Chloe Hicks, Kelly Henry, Danielle Griggs, Sydney Pesetti and Ashley Buchter.
In celebration of the season kick-off, Virginia Tech will host its IntraQuad meet on Oct. 7 beginning at 8 a.m. A community swim clinic that is free of charge and open to the public will follow at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
