The Virginia Tech men’s golf team has a two round total of 589 and is in 14th place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club on Saturday. The three-day event is being played at the par 72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Tech shot an even-par 288 on Saturday.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a junior from Richmond, Virginia, leads the Hokies with an even-par 144 and is tied for 32nd place individually. He trails leader Hayden Buckley of Missouri by 12 strokes. Lawrence has shot 72 in each of the first two rounds. Today’s round was highlighted by an eagle 3 on the 534-yard eighth hole.
Connor Burgess, a freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia is tied for 47th place at 146 and Blake Fiest, a junior from Huntersville, North Carolina, is tied for 56th at 148. Slade Pickering, a freshman from North West, South Africa, is 68th at 151 and Sarit Suwannarut, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand is 81st at 156. Fiest’s 2-under 70 was low round for the Hokies on Saturday.
Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia, is playing the tournament as an individual and is tied for 47th at 146.
Penn State continues to lead the tournament. They have a two round total of 549, nine strokes ahead of Missouri and 10 strokes ahead of Kent State and Louisville. Tennessee, Coastal Carolina, host ETSU, UNC Wilmington, East Carolina and Virginia round out the top 10. Kansas State is 11th at 581, VCU is 12th at 583 and Furman is 13th at 585, four strokes ahead of the Hokies and eight strokes ahead of Villanova.
