BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech senior cornerback Greg Stroman has been tabbed to the watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, the award’s committee announced Friday. The Jim Thorpe Award is presented to the best defensive back in college football.
Stroman broke out last season after setting career-highs in interceptions (3) and passes defended (13). Despite missing three games, Stroman developed a reputation as one of the best cover corners in the ACC and earned second-team All-ACC honors. Stroman returned for the conference title game against Clemson after the three-game absence and tallied two pass deflections.
The Bristow, Virginia native was also a key cog on special teams last season where he collected 221 punt return yards and 460 kick return yards. He also posted an 87-yard punt return TD against East Carolina and blocked a field goal attempt at Duke that led to a scoop-and-score.
