FAIRFAX, Va. – Kristine Loscalzo scored on a free position shot just 46 seconds into overtime to lift the No. 14 Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse team to an 11-10 victory over George Mason in a non-conference game played Wednesday on George Mason’s campus.
The win enabled the Hokies to continue their sizzling start to the season, as they improved to 8-2 overall, and they also moved to 3-0 in road games. The Patriots fell to 1-2 on the season.
George Mason led 7-4 at halftime after getting three first-half goals from sophomore Chachi Kelehan. The Hokies, though, rallied in the second half, getting three goals from leading scorer Tristan McGinley. McGinley’s third goal came with a little more than five minutes to go and gave the Hokies a 10-8 lead.
The Patriots, however, answered, getting a goal from Kelehan with 3:08 to go and then tying the game at 10 with 54 seconds left on a goal from Alexa McGovern.
Loscalzo’s game winner was her second goal of the game and her 23rd of the season. McGinley led the Hokies with four goals and has a team-best 32 on the year. Tech also got single goals from Taylor Caskey, Marissa Davey, Mary Claire Byrne and Zan Biedenharn.
The Hokies wrap up their three-game road swing on Saturday when they travel to Delaware to take on the Blue Hens. The game time is slated for noon.
