No. 5 Hokies welcome No. 6 Nebraska for NWCA National Duals matchup

BLACKSBURG - The fifth-ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team is set to take on No. 6 Nebraska in the NWCA National Duals Championships Series at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Cassell Coliseum.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at the Cassell Coliseum ticket office. The match will be streamed live on WatchESPN via the ACC Digital Network and live stats can be found on TrackWrestling.com. Bailey Angle and former Virginia Tech All-American Devin Carter will be on the call.

The Hokies (17-1, 5-0 ACC) are coming off a 29-15 win over No. 16 South Dakota State in the regular season finale. Before its win over the Jackrabbits, Tech claimed their third-consecutive ACC Dual Meet Championship with a victory over No. 8 NC State, 20-14, on Feb. 11. Tech has won every dual meet championship since its inception in 2014-15.

Last year’s National Duals saw the Hokies travel to No. 8 Michigan and defeat the Wolverines, 24-11, on Feb. 21, 2016. In the original National Duals format, Tech went 3-2 in Columbus, Ohio with wins over Oregon State, Chattanooga and Central Michigan.

ALL-TIME VS. NEBRASKA

  • Nebraska and Virginia Tech have met three times in a series that dates back to 2006.
  • The Huskers have won all three matches and they last defeated the Hokies 26-11 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on Jan. 25, 2009.

LINEUP NOTES

  • The only match time decision for the Hokies is at 141 pounds where fans could either see sophomore Brendan Ryan or redshirt junior Kevin Norstrem.
  • There will be six bouts between two ranked opponents, including all four weight between 174 and 285.
