Brooks named VaSID Women's Basketball Coach of the Year

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Newly appointed Virginia Tech head women’s basketball coach Kenny Brooks has been named the 2016 Virginia Sports Information Directors Coach of the Year as announced Wednesday.

Brooks was named the Hokies’ seventh coach in program history on March 28 after tallying a career record of 337-122 at JMU. During his 14-year tenure he posted 11 consecutive postseason appearances, including six trips to the NCAAs and five to the WNIT.

Last season Brooks guided James Madison to a 27-6 mark and led the Dukes to their third consecutive CAA championship. JMU also made its fifth NCAA appearance in seven seasons in 2015-16 under Brooks leadership. JMU’s 2015-16 campaign marked the 11th straight season the Dukes reached 24 or more wins under Brooks’ guidance.

The VaSID honors are voted on by sports information directors from around the state. Virginia Tech women’s basketball season tickets will go on sale in June.
