Hokies set for 2016 Women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women’s swimming and diving teams are set to compete this week at the 2016 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.

In total, nine participants will represent Virginia Tech including seven swimmers and two divers.

“We are excited to get things going with the 800 Free Relay on Wednesday. The ladies have put in such great work and I know that they are prepared to go out and compete for the Hokies. Weronika Paluszek will conclude her storied career this week and she has accomplished so many things at NCAA's already. Our coaches have done an outstanding job mentoring and preparing these swimmers and divers and I appreciate what they do for us as well,” head coach Ned Skinnersaid.

Weronika Paluszek, Klaudia Nazieblo, Maggie Gruber, Jessica Hespeler, Adriana Grabski, Alice Boutantand Fiona Donnelly will be competing in swimming. Ashlynn Peters and Leah Piemonte will participate in the diving events.

The Hokies are coming off the ACC Championships that concluded on Feb. 20 with some outstanding individual performances. Nazieblo earned two silver medals after swimming a 4:07.63 in the 400 IM and a 1:55.30 in the 200 fly. Paluszek earned a bronze medal in the 100 breast as she clocked a 59.37 and doubled her bronze count after with her time of 2:09.95 in the 200 breast.

Hespeler will be swimming in the 500 freestyle, 200 free and 1,650 free. Klaudia Nazieblo will compete in the 400 IM, 200 backstroke and 200 fly. Maggie Gruber will compete in the 100 fly. Weronika Paluszek will be taking part in the 100 breast and 200 breast. The team will also be swimming in the 800 free relay and 400 medley relay.

Ashylnn Peters will be diving in all three events, the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events. Leah Piemonte will dive in the platform event.

Wednesday night will feature the 800 relay while Thursday will ebing at 10 a.m. with prelims in the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 400 medley relay and 1-meter diving. The finals will begin at 6 p.m. The meet runs March 16-20.
