Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech swimming and diving teams play host to the University of Virginia with Towson University on Friday and Saturday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. The meet on Friday will start at 5 p.m. and at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with the senior ceremony starting ten minutes prior.
The H2Okies are coming off a weekend in which they combined to go 3-1 in a meet at the University of Kentucky with Louisiana State University. Overall, the men's team is undefeated on the season with a 9-0 in dual meet scoring record while the women hold a record of 8-2.
The Cavaliers will provide great competition for the Hokies as the Virginia women's team is ranked No. 3 by the CSCAA and have spent much of the year at No. 1. The UVA men are currently ranked No. 21 in the bi-weekly polls.
Last weekend, Robert Owen took first in the 400 IM at 3:56.41 while Zach Switzer finished third in the event at 4:01.84. Newcomer Norbert Szabo continued his strong start for the Hokies with a first place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 48.71. Bureau swam a 1:40.08 to win the 200 free.
Brandon Fiala won the 100 free and the 200 IM as Szabo finished second in that event. The A relay for the men’s 200 free won with a time of 1:21.10. Szuba won the 500 free with a time of 4:30.02. Ian Ho finished first in the 50 free with a time of 20.41.
In diving, Logan Stevens finished second in the platform, narrowly behind first place by .15 points.
For the women, Jessica Hespeler won the 1,650 free in 16:46.73. Klaudia Nazieblo swam a 1:58.23 to come in second place in the 200 fly. Weronika Paluszek won the 200 back.
The men’s 400 free A relay came in first place with a time of 3:01.25, just ahead of the A relay from LSU. Owen and Sean Workman finished second and third in the 200 back. Fiala won the 200 back with a time of 2:00.64, winning the event by almost two seconds.
In diving, in the men’s 1-meter, Ben Schiesl took first place with Stevens coming in second.
