BLACKSBURG, Va. - For the first time this season, the Virginia Tech women’s track & field team climbed into the top 25, checking in at No. 21, as announced in the latest USTFCCCA computer rankings on Monday afternoon.
Irena Sediva’s national leading javelin throw was a huge boost for the Hokies. The sophomore Pribram, Czech Republic native’s throw of 190’4” (58.02m) broke an ACC record this past weekend and moved her into the NCAA all-time top-10 in the event.
Fellow javelin thrower Sabine Kopplin ranks 17th in the nation in the javelin throw after attaining a mark of 162’4” (49.47m) at the Florida Relays.
Sarah Rapp currently ranks 16th in the nation in the 5000-meter distance. Rapp posted a time of 16:07.00 at the Raleigh Relays two weekends ago to help propel the Hokies.
The Hokies will be back in action this weekend as they head to the Tennessee Relays.
