KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Several Hokies put in quality performances to kick off the Tennessee Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee on Friday evening.
The men’s discus throw produced a winner as Jordan Roach claimed top honors after hitting a personal best mark of 182’06” (55.62m).
Three Hokies finished in the top 10 of the men’s 800-meter race led by Prince Owusu who finished in first place with a time of 1:50.97. Kevin DeWillie finished in sixth with a time of 1:52.08 while Kevin Cianfarini finished in seventh with a time of 1:52.59.
Neil Gourley finished in first and Patrick Joseph finished in second in the men’s 1500-meter race as four Tech runners finished in the top 10. Gourley won with a time of 3:47.54 while Joseph crossed the finish line just behind him with a time of 3:47.65. Darren Barlow finished in fifth with a time of 3:49.14 while Daniel Jaskowak finished in ninth with a time of 3:50.13.
In the men’s 400-meter hurdles, Austin Kolko finished in 11th place overall posting a time of 55.03 seconds. Alexander Merritt finished in 17th place with a time of 56.61 seconds.
In the men’s 100-meter dash, Dante Price posted a 10th-place finish overall with a time of 10.60 seconds. Price followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.44 seconds. Darius Watkins finished just behind him in seventh place with a time of 21.49 seconds.
Jeffrey Linta finished in third in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 15’11.25” (4.86m) while Brad Johnson finished in sixth with a mark of 15’05.50” (4.71m).
Tech dominated the women’s 1500-meter race with five of the top 10 spots going to Hokie runners. Hanna Green (4:23.20), Paige Kvartunas (4:25.29) and Sarah Rapp (4:26.25) posted a one-three-four finish. Katarina Smiljanec finished in sixth, crossing the finish line at 4:28.01. Katie Kennedy ended up in eighth with a time of 4:28.54.
Amanda Smith, Shannon Morton and Shalonda Mitchell all finished in the top 10 in the women’s 800-meter race led by Smith’s second-place finish. Smith posted a time of 2:08.29 while Morton finished in fifth with a time of 2:11.36 and Mitchell finished in seventh with a time of 2:12.01.
Erinn Schaal finished in fifth in the women’s pole vault with a mark of 11’11.75” (3.65m) while Olivia Privitera finished in eighth hitting a height of 11’05.75” (3.50m).
The Hokies will conclude the Tennessee Relays tomorrow afternoon.
