Shai McKenzie suffers torn ACL

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech head athletic trainer Mike Goforth announced Sunday that true freshman running back Shai McKenzie suffered a tear of his right ACL in Saturday’s game against Western Michigan and will miss the remainder of the season. It is the same knee McKenzie hurt last September when he was a senior in high school.

Team doctors will let the swelling in the knee subside before operating in October. The Washington, Pennsylvania, native will miss spring practice.

McKenzie has played in all five games, rushing 53 times for 269 yards and a team-high three touchdowns.
