Two Hokies take titles at National Collegiate Open

GLEN ALLEN, Va. - Seven Virginia Tech wrestlers wrapped up their 2013-14 season by competing in the National Collegiate Open, held Sunday at Deep Run High School, with five placing at their respective weight classes with Zach Epperly (174) and David Reck (197) both winning titles.

Epperly capped off an impressive redshirt campaign as he won his sixth open tournament of the season, going 4-0 to win the National Collegiate Open. He also won the Hokie Open, the Wolfpack Open, the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial, the Appalachian State Open and the Edinboro Open, finishing his season with a 25-2 record. His only two losses came at the Midlands Championships, where he placed fifth.

Also placing were: Dan Garwood (second at heavyweight), Jared Haught (second at 197 pounds) and Kevin Norstrem (third at 133 pounds),

The varsity squad will host the 2014 ACC Wrestling Championship on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. inside Cassell Coliseum. Tickets are already available and are $5 pre-sale, $10 at the door.
