Hokie ClubPHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior defender Devante Dubose was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes as the 66th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2014 MLS Superdraft following an impressive 2013 campaign at Virginia Tech.
“Our entire staff is very proud of Devante and what he has accomplished. I couldn’t be more excited for him. The Earthquakes are picking up an outstanding player and an even better person,” explained head coach Mike Brizendine.
Dubose was drafted following an impressive four-year career as a Hokie that saw him start 52 games and appear in 60 matches as a defender.
He contributed to defensive efforts this season that notched shut outs against No. 1 North Carolina, No. 16 Clemson, Binghamton and VMI and was a key part of a defense that only allowed 23 goals all season, the lowest total allowed since 2005.
The Oakland, Calif. native is familiar with the Earthquakes, as he has previously spent time training with their squad during the summers.

The San Jose Earthquakes, coached by Mark Watson, finished sixth in the Western Conference last season and just missed out on the playoffs due to a tiebreaker. The squad went 14-11-9 last year and is set to kick-off the 2014 campaign in early March.
