Hokie ClubKANSAS CITY, Kan. – Senior goalkeeper Kyle Renfro continues to be honored after the completion of his senior season as he has been named an NSCAA Scholar All-American as announced by the NSCAA on Friday afternoon.
“This is another great accolade that Kyle has received. He’s worked extremely hard for everything he has received both on the field and in the classroom and it truly shows how outstanding of a player and person he is. I couldn’t be more proud of him,” explained head coach Mike Brizendine.
Renfro is the first player to be named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team in Virginia Tech men’s soccer history and is the first player to be named to one of the three teams since Dustin Dyer was selected onto the third team in 2005.
To be named to a Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; and start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team.
The Forest, Va. native was one of three ACC players to be named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team. Throughout his four-year career as a Hokie, Renfro has been able to maintain a 3.53 GPA while also being a starter for all four seasons.
Not only has Renfro been tremendous in the classroom, but he has also done his part on the field as well. The senior currently ranks third all-time in career saves with 305 and career shutouts with 14.
These student-athletes and others announced as NSCAA award winners will be recognized Saturday, Jan. 18 at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in conjunction with the 2014 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia.
