TOWSON, Md. (cosida.com) – Diver Ryan Hawkins of the Virginia Tech swimming and diving program earned a spot on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men’s At-Large Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America Thursday afternoon.
Hawkins earned a spot on the third team for the second year in a row. The rising senior from Charlotte, N.C., is just the second Virginia Tech male swimmer to earn the award and the first to garner the award twice.
Hawkins also collected his third academic honor this season, which includes the men’s Capital One Academic All-District and All-ACC Academic teams. Hawkins is an All-American in the 3-meter event and two-time All-American in the platform event. The architecture major won the 2012 ACC title in the platform event and competed in the 2012 Olympic Trials
The Capital One Academic All-America Men’s At-Large program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wresting.
